PRESSURE GROWS TO SCRAP CONTROVERSIAL MASTERCHEF SEASON AMID HOST SCANDALS

August 1, 2025

The future of the upcoming season of MasterChef hangs in the balance as critics demand its cancellation following the dismissal of longtime hosts Gregg Wallace and John Torode over misconduct allegations.

Broadcasting union Bectu has urged the network to reconsider airing the show, arguing that rewarding problematic behavior with prime-time exposure sends the wrong message. Meanwhile, women’s rights advocates warn that viewers—particularly those who came forward with complaints—may find the broadcast deeply unsettling.

The controversy stems from multiple upheld complaints against the hosts, including allegations of inappropriate conduct and offensive language. Despite this, the network has opted to proceed with the season—filmed before the hosts’ removal—after consulting contestants.

However, not all involved support the decision. One former contestant revealed she was cut from the show after objecting to its airing, calling the move “silencing” and emblematic of a broader pattern of dismissing women’s voices. Others who accused Wallace of misconduct expressed dismay, arguing that broadcasting the series undermines accountability.

The production company maintains that contestant concerns were reviewed, though some allege their objections were ignored. With tensions high, the network faces a dilemma: honor the efforts of aspiring chefs or stand by those who exposed misconduct behind the scenes.

As debate continues, the question remains—should a tainted season still make it to air?
