LOHAN AND CURTIS REUNITE FOR LONG-AWAITED “FREAKY FRIDAY” SEQUEL

August 1, 2025

Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are stepping back into their iconic roles for Freakier Friday, a sequel to the beloved 2003 body-swap comedy. This time, the story takes a wilder turn with multiple characters switching bodies, adding fresh layers to the original’s mother-daughter dynamic.

The film, set for release on August 8, marks Lohan’s return to Disney after more than a decade away from the studio. Now a mother herself, she brings a new perspective to her character, Anna, who navigates parenthood while adjusting to life with a stepdaughter.

At the London premiere, Lohan shared her enthusiasm for revisiting the franchise. “Fans have such a connection to the first film—it brought so much joy,” she said. “With everything happening in the world, it’s great to create something that lets people escape for a while.”

Curtis, who originated the role of Lohan’s on-screen mother, emphasized the film’s deeper message. “Empathy is in short supply these days,” she noted. “This story reminds us that walking in someone else’s shoes can bridge divides.” The actress, who recently won an Oscar for Everything Everywhere All at Once, revealed she had pushed for the sequel for years, waiting until Lohan was old enough to portray a mother of a teenager.

The movie also features returning star Chad Michael Murray and introduces Julia Butters as Lohan’s daughter. Its release comes amid a wave of nostalgic sequels, including a follow-up to Bend It Like Beckham and The Devil Wears Prada.

For Lohan, the project represents both a professional comeback and personal growth. After stepping back from Hollywood in the 2010s, she returned to acting in 2022 and has since embraced motherhood. “Becoming a parent changes everything,” she reflected. “It’s a balancing act, but it’s also given me a whole new understanding of family.”

With its mix of humor and heartfelt moments, Freakier Friday aims to recapture the magic of the original while offering a fresh take for a new generation.
