FAMILIES SEEK JUSTICE IN CREESLOUGH EXPLOSION THROUGH CIVIL LAWSUIT

July 27, 2025

Relatives of those killed in the devastating 2022 Creeslough service station blast have initiated legal action, demanding accountability for the tragedy that claimed ten lives.

Legal representatives for the families confirmed that civil claims have been filed against the operators of the Applegreen service station, the owners of the adjacent apartment complex, and several other entities. The victims—ranging from a five-year-old girl to adults—were all local residents of the tight-knit Donegal community.

Darragh Mackin of Phoenix Law, representing multiple claimants, stated that unanswered questions persist, compelling families to pursue legal avenues for truth and justice. “With no independent inquiry underway, our clients have no choice but to seek answers through the courts,” he said.

The defendants include Applegreen Ltd, Donegal County Council, Vivo Shell Ltd, and others. The explosion, which remains one of the deadliest civilian incidents in Donegal’s recent history, has left deep scars in the village of roughly 400 people.

Last year, local authorities endorsed calls for a public inquiry, but families remain dissatisfied with the pace of progress. A recent attempt to redevelop the site was blocked after relatives successfully appealed the planning permission.

The legal battle underscores the ongoing struggle for closure nearly two years after the disaster.
