DUA LIPA HONORED WITH KOSOVAR CITIZENSHIP IN EMOTIONAL CEREMONY

August 2, 2025

Global pop sensation Dua Lipa has officially become a citizen of Kosovo in a heartfelt ceremony hosted by President Vjosa Osmani. The singer, who has long embraced her Kosovar-Albanian heritage, described the moment as a profound unification of her identity.

Born in London to Kosovar parents, Lipa spent part of her childhood in Pristina after her family returned following Kosovo’s independence. President Osmani praised the artist as a cultural icon, stating that her contributions have brought immense pride to the nation.

“This recognition bridges the two halves of who I am,” Lipa shared. “Kosovo has always been in my heart, and this means everything to my family and me.”

The ceremony, attended by dignitaries including the UK Ambassador to Kosovo, featured a children’s choir performing one of Lipa’s hit songs. The singer is currently in the country to headline the Sunny Hill Festival, an event she co-founded in 2018 to reshape global perceptions of Kosovo.

Lipa, who already holds British and Albanian citizenship, was previously named an Honorary Ambassador of Kosovo in 2022 for her global advocacy.

Kosovo, which declared independence from Serbia in 2008, remains unrecognized by several nations, including Serbia, Russia, and China. However, Lipa’s unwavering support has amplified its cultural presence worldwide.

Following her festival performance, she expressed deep gratitude, calling the experience indescribable. “To share this moment in the city that shaped me—surrounded by love and energy—is beyond words,” she said.

The Sunny Hill Festival, held in her parents’ hometown, was established to challenge stereotypes about Kosovo and showcase its vibrant culture. Lipa’s dual role as artist and advocate continues to inspire both her fans and her homeland.
