ACCLAIMED SCREENWRITER STEVEN KNIGHT TO PEN NEXT JAMES BOND FILM

August 1, 2025

Renowned for creating the hit series Peaky Blinders, Steven Knight has been tapped to write the screenplay for the upcoming James Bond installment. The project, set to be directed by Denis Villeneuve (Dune, Blade Runner 2049), marks a new era for the iconic spy franchise following the departure of longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson earlier this year.

Knight, an avowed Bond enthusiast, described the opportunity as a lifelong dream. “It’s something I’ve always wanted to do,” he said. “As a longtime fan, I hope to bring fresh energy while staying true to what makes Bond timeless.”

While details remain under wraps, speculation continues over who will succeed Daniel Craig as 007. Names like Aaron Taylor-Johnson, James Norton, and Paul Mescal have circulated, though Knight remained tight-lipped. “That’s the million-dollar question,” he quipped, offering no hints on casting.

Knight’s diverse portfolio includes the Oscar-nominated Dirty Pretty Things, the critically praised Spencer, and the recent period drama This Town. His involvement signals a bold new direction for the franchise, with production reportedly eyeing a 2028 release.

Villeneuve, known for his visually striking sci-fi epics, has expressed deep reverence for the Bond legacy, promising a film that honors its roots while pushing boundaries.

With fresh creative voices at the helm, the next chapter of 007 promises to be both familiar and groundbreaking.
