Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir are investigating an Indian Army officer accused of assaulting airline employees during a dispute over excess baggage at Srinagar airport.
The incident, which occurred on July 26 but gained attention after footage circulated online, reportedly began when the officer, identified as Ritesh Kumar Singh, was asked to pay for overweight cabin luggage before boarding a flight to Delhi. According to the airline, Singh refused and proceeded toward the aerobridge without completing check-in formalities.
Video clips show Singh allegedly striking a staff member with a metal stand before being restrained by security. The airline claims four employees were injured, including one who suffered a spinal fracture and another who sustained facial injuries.
Singh has denied the allegations, stating he was provoked by staff behavior and has filed a counter-complaint. The Indian Army confirmed it is reviewing the matter, emphasizing its commitment to discipline.
Police have registered a case against Singh for assault and intimidation. Meanwhile, the airline has submitted CCTV evidence and initiated steps to ban him from future flights.
