Renowned television personality Jay Blades has been formally charged with two counts of rape, authorities confirmed. The 55-year-old, famous for his role on the popular restoration program The Repair Shop, is scheduled to appear before Telford Magistrates’ Court on August 13, 2025.
In addition to the rape allegations, Blades is also involved in a separate legal case concerning accusations of controlling and coercive behavior toward his estranged wife, Lisa Zbozen. A pre-trial review for this matter is set to take place at Worcester Crown & County Court. Blades has previously denied the charge.
Blades rose to prominence as the host of The Repair Shop, a beloved series where experts restore sentimental family heirlooms. The show, which debuted in 2017, quickly gained a dedicated following, eventually moving from daytime to prime-time television. It earned critical acclaim, including a National Television Award and a BAFTA for a special episode featuring a royal guest.
Beyond The Repair Shop, Blades has fronted several other programs, including Money for Nothing and Jay Blades’ Home Fix. In 2022, he shared his personal journey of learning to read as an adult in a documentary. His contributions to broadcasting and craftsmanship were recognized with an MBE in 2021.
Blades stepped away from his hosting duties last year. The latest developments mark a significant turn in his public and personal life as he prepares to address the serious allegations in court.
