DECADES-LONG SEARCH FOR MISSING IRISH WOMAN CONCLUDES WITHOUT ANSWERS

August 1, 2025

Authorities in Ireland have ended their latest excavation efforts in County Wexford, where they had been searching for the remains of Fiona Sinnott, a young mother who vanished 27 years ago. Sinnott was just 19 when she disappeared after an evening out with friends at a local pub in Broadway on February 8, 1998.

Despite extensive forensic and technical examinations of the site, investigators have not disclosed their findings, citing operational reasons. The case, however, remains open.

Sinnott, who had an 11-month-old daughter at the time, was last seen leaving Butler’s pub around midnight. Her family has endured decades of uncertainty, with her sister describing the ordeal as an unending torment.

Over the years, police have pursued hundreds of leads, arrested six individuals, and collected over 500 witness statements. Yet, key witnesses—four people seen near the area that night—have never come forward.

Sinnott was petite, with auburn hair and brown eyes. Authorities continue to urge anyone with information to come forward, hoping for a breakthrough in this long-unsolved mystery.
